Sellers Hits The Reset Wins At South Boston

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. —  Peyton Sellers used the three-week break in South Boston Speedway’s racing schedule to hit the reset button. It worked.

The Danville, Virginia resident sped past pole winner and division points leader Trevor Ward with 38 laps to go and drove away from the field to win the 100-lap Hitachi Energy Late Model Stock Car Division race that headlined the Davenport Energy Race Night event Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.

His margin of victory over runner-up Conner “C-Weed” Weddell of Centerville, Maryland was just over two seconds.

“The last race we qualified on the pole, led some, and Trevor was working on us when a caution came out,” Sellers explained. “We fell back after that caution. We worked on the car, got it better, freshened our engine during off-weeks and kind of hit reset a little bit. Here we are in victory lane. It was a good night.”

Sellers’ fourth win of the season at South Boston Speedway, was a special one.

“For us, right now, the biggest shot in the arm was winning on Davenport Energy Night,” the eight-time South Boston Speedway champion noted. “They have been with us a long time, and winning on their night is always very special.”

Weddell had another solid night, logging his third runner-up finish in a row and his fourth in his last five starts.

“It’s really good to run second here at South Boston Speedway,” Weddell said, “but doing it every week you kind of get tired of it. I feel like we’ve had a couple of shots to win. I feel we’re good enough. I look forward to coming back next week and competing for a win.”

Ward finished third, almost three seconds behind Sellers, with Blake Stallings and Landon Pembelton rounding out the top five finishers in the 15-car field.

Ward continues to lead the division championship chase. However, Sellers with the win, has trimmed his deficit to Ward. Unofficially, the margin has dropped from 22 points down to 19 points with three races and two nights of points races remaining on the schedule.

Teenagers Tristan Brunelli and Brian Rundstrom Jr. have darted to the top of the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division championship points chase in the wake of their one-two finish in Saturday night’s 50-lap race for the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division.

Brunelli staged a dominant performance, winning the pole and leading every lap en route to his fifth win of the season.

B.J. Reaves came away with his first victory of the season, taking the win in the 25-lap Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division race.

Division points leader Landon Milam had a big night, winning the pole and driving away from a swarming pack of Hornets Division racers to earn the win in the 15-lap race for the Dollar General Hornets Division.
