SOUTH BOSTON, Va. — After a highly successful 2024 season that produced 11 wins and a track championship, Landon Pembelton is turning his sights to South Boston Speedway in 2025.
Pembelton, the 2024 Dominion Raceway champion, is driving for Cluster Springs, Virginia-based R&S Race Cars this season, and will compete for the South Boston Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division title for the first time since the 2022 season. He started his trek on the upcoming season by testing a new car at South Boston.
“I tested their house car twice before, and was very pleased with it,” Pembelton remarked. “This is a brand-new car. It’s been very good. I’ve been very pleased with it.”
Pembelton is excited about working with Marcus Richmond and everyone at R&S Race Cars.
“I’m really looking forward to the season with these guys,” Pembelton pointed out. “I’ve really enjoyed having these last couple of testing sessions and building the relationship with Marcus Richmond and his guys. It’s going to be a lot of fun this year.”
Pembelton’s previous best finishes in the chase for the South Boston Late Model Stock Car Division title have been a pair of fifth-place efforts in 2021 and 2022. He has two career wins in Late Model Stock Car Division competition at the track.
The Amelia, Va. resident is optimistic that he can improve both facets and feels he has as good a chance as anyone at winning the championship.
“It’s definitely achievable,” Pembelton said. “We need great consistency all season.”
Pembelton acknowledges that winning the title is going to be a tough challenge.
“It’s going to be a war for sure,” he pointed out. “You’re going to have Peyton (Sellers) and (Kyle) Dudley, and numerous cars up here that are going to be very good.
“I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully we can come out on top.”
