HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Hall of Fame sprint car driver Lance Dewease will make his first start behind the wheel of a super late model at Hagerstown Speedway on June 5 during the Frank Sagi Tribute Race.
Walter Dyer, Mert Stine and Gerald Chamberlain will be special guests at the event.
Dewease, a 38-year veteran of 410 sprint car competition with more than 350 career feature wins, will make his maiden voyage in a fendered race car behind the wheel of the Chad Horst and Danny McSherry-owned No. 14, normally piloted by Tyler Horst.
The Horst-McSherry team, who won the 2019 Winchester (Va.) Speedway track championship, will field a Rocket Chassis XR-1 powered by a Leggett Engine Research built Chevrolet for Dewease. The car will carry a commemorative No. 461 Brickmobile wrap to honor Dewease’s former car owner and race honoree Dyer.
Dewease is also driving a Late Model to honor his late father Stuart Dewease, who participated in stock car racing at Hagerstown Speedway in the late 1960s and early ’70s as a crewman, car owner and driver to give the Dewease family its start in racing.
Dewease will be going up against a talented field of the Mid-Atlantic area’s top super late model drivers, competing in qualifying, heat races and a 30-lap feature event paying $4,000 to the winner. The Mid-Atlantic Modifieds will also be on the card, along with the popular EMMR vintage cars, who will be on the track for exhibition laps.
