DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Davenport Dirt Stars shined brightly Friday night. One hundred and 30 cars were in the Davenport Speedway pit area and ready to put on a show for the fans in the stands.
Headlining Friday’s program was the Karl Chevrolet PRO Late Models. The 20-lap main started with Matt Ryan jumping out to an early lead from the pole. Ryan would pull away to a one second lead by lap seven. However lapped traffic would be his demise.
In the congestion, Nick Marolf, Dylan Thorton, and C.J. Horn were able to close in on the leader. Late in the race, Horn would power through on the bottom for the lead while Ryan and Thorton would get together in turn four. Horn continued on for the win. Thorton recovered to take second. Marolf edged out Ryan for third. Clay Simpson was scored fifth.
In Midwest Recyclers / Del’s Metal Co. IMCA Modifieds action, Matt Werner picked up his second Davenport trophy of the season. Werner led nearly every lap of the race, mostly using the high side of the race track.
Denny Eckrich was able to squeeze into the lead on lap thirteen, but Werner retook the top spot on the following lap.
Spencer Diercks climbed his way forward for a second-place finish. Eckrich held on to third followed by Tim Ward and Charlie Mohr.
The Koehler Electric Street Stocks had a case of yellow fever in their feature. Four caution flags flew before the first lap could be completed. Two more yellows were recorded before lap five.
Wisconsin racer Jason Robbins was able to stay in front of the carnage and led every lap for the win. Robert Cottom was involved in one of the early yellows but drove back through the field for second. Rob Henry finished third, ahead of Jordan Miles and Joe Bonney.
Hunter Longnecker captured his first ever Davenport win in the AVS Hydro Excavating IMCA SportMods. Austin Kemp led lap one after starting on the pole. Levi Heath held the lead from lap two until lap 13. Longnecker started 12th and picked off spots one by one. He grabbed the lead on lap 13, and held it the remainder of the race. Tony Olson passed Heath late in the race for second. Kevin Goben and Austin Kemp rounded out the top five.
The Wangelin’s Auto IMCA Hobby Stock feature was also plagued by a number of early yellows. Once the field got to green flag racing it was all Bradly Graham of Victor, Iowa. Graham took the lead on lap two and led the rest of the way. Jordan Miles turned in a nice run to finish second. Corey VanDerwilt, Kolby Sabin, and Matt Bennett were third through fifth, in that order.
Dillon Raffurty made the long trek from Kansas City pay off with a win in the Freds Towing / Cantrell Towing / QC Towing IMCA Mod Lites. Raffurty took the lead on lap four and would go untouched the rest of the way, despite several caution periods and one red flag.
Dan Keltner started deep in the field and raced his way to second by lap eight. He would get no closer and settled for a second-place finish. Bryan Zehm, Darrick Knutsen, and Michael Raffurty completed the top five.
The Midwest Jalopies completed the racing program. Austin Honts and Matt Fulton Sr. had a spirited battle back and forth for the win. Honts made a last lap pass for the victory. Fulton took second. Jayson Blunt and Jeff Blunt finished third and fourth. Pat Bailey rounded out the top five.
