Three-time NHRA Funny Car champion Ron Capps charged to his third victory of the season, and shared victory lane with his 22-year-old protégé — Maddi Gordon — who earned her firstTop Fuel victory.
Capps defeated Jack Beckman in the Funny Car final with a 3.969-second blast at 328.54 mph and moments later watched his Ron Capps Motorsports Top Fuel car piloted by Gordon outrun Antron Brown to earn the first nitro class sweep in team history.
Gordon’s first Top Fuel victory came in only her 10 th race and on the same day her team owner celebrated his milestone 80 th victory.
