Murtaugh Reaches Sportsman Milestone

LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y. —  Richard Murtaugh reached a historic DIRTcar Sportsman Series milestone Thursday night at Can-Am Speedway.

The Fulton, NY driver dominated the 30-lap feature to earn his third win of 2026. He also became the 10th driver to earn 10 career wins since the series began in 1990.

Murtaugh, who won his Heat Race and picked the No. 1 pill in the redraw, quickly drove away from the field when the race began. It didn’t take long for him to build up a significant lead, pulling ahead of track champion Gavin Eisele by over a second.

The “Rocket” maintained that lead throughout the first half of the race, before the race’s first caution flew on Lap 14.

That yellow flag would end Eisele’s night, as he hit the Turn 3 wall near the track’s pit entrance as he tried to go around a lap car.

When the race resumed, Murtaugh again drove away from the field, with Jessica Power sliding past Mason Rogers for second on the inside lane.

However, that was as close as Power got to Murtaugh, as he drove away to earn the $1,000 victory.

Murtaugh drove a different car than he’s run throughout the season, which paid off with another victory.

“This (car) has been sitting for about two, three months,” Murtaugh said. “We haven’t even touched it. Went through it. Put some new stuff on it, and it was a rocket ship right out of the gate.”

Power finished second, while Rogers rounded out the podium. Logan Brown crossed the line fourth, and Tyler Corcoran was fifth.

The finish:
