SLINGER, Wis. — After three Slinger Speedway track championships, Brad Mueller can finally say he’s won the Slinger Nationals.
Mueller, however, did not cross the start/finish line first on Tuesday night.
It was Andrew Morrissey who took the checkered flag in first. Morrissey failed post-race technical inspection due to the No. 39 not fitting the center-line template correctly, which disqualified him from the race.
Notably, Morrissey’s fastest lap during qualifying at the quarter-mile oval was disallowed after his car was light at the scales for technical inspection, which forced him to start near the back of the field.
Mueller was declared the winner after seven top-five finishes previously at the historic asphalt late model race, including two runner-up results.
Derek Thorn placed second after leading 43 laps. Derek Kraus, who competes part time for Kaulig Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series, finished third in the 43rd running of the event.
Six-time Slinger Nationals winner Steve Apel was fourth while R.J. Braun completed the top-five finishers.
A crash with 55 laps to go derailed full-time Cup Series driver Ryan Preece’s chances of winning. He finished 14th.
