The month of May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway got off to a thrilling start as Christian Lundgaard made a late-race pass of David Malukas to win the Sonsio Grand Prix on the IMS road course.
Lundgaard made the winning move with 15 laps remaining after the pair battled side by side through several turns.
The race got off to a rocky start as multiple drivers were involved in a wild opening-lap crash that eliminated several contenders.
As the race wound down, Lundgaard’s No. 7 Arrow McLaren was chasing Malukas, whose Team Penske machine led a race-high 27 laps.
Lundgaard completed his winning move in turns five and six and drove away over the closing laps to win by 4.67 seconds and earn his second NTT IndyCar Series victory and first since Toronto in 2023.
