With the ARCA Midwest Tour Wayne Carter Classic 100 late model stock car special set for Saturday evening, July 11, at Grundy County Speedway, it seemed like an appropriate time to look back at the inaugural Wayne Carter Classic.

With late model division qualifying just about over, rains and high winds hit the Grundy County Speedway Friday night, forcing officials to cancel the speedway’s opening stock car racing program of the season.

A little luck and a fast race car proved to be the ingredients that Paul Shafer Jr. needed to capture his second consecutive Tony Bettenhausen Classic 100 presented by Elite Tradeshow Services Saturday night at the Grundy County Speedway.

Ricky Baker came home the winner of the Lee Schuler Memorial late model stock car special which highlighted the annual Night of Features at Grundy County Speedway Sunday night.
Paul Shafer Jr. raced to victory in the 57th annual Tony Bettenhausen Classic 100 presented by Elite Tradeshow Services late model stock car race at the Grundy County Speedway Saturday night.
Keeping himself in the division points race, Billy Knippenberg won the 30-lap late model stock car feature race at Grundy County Speedway Friday night.
Veteran driver Eddie Hoffman, who has been winning late model stock car feature races since 1996, was the winner of the 35-lap Mid Season Championship race for late models at the Grundy County Speedway Friday night.
