After the first two nights of High Bank Nationals at South Dakota’s Huset’s Speedway, two-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion David Gravel and Big Game Motorsports were on the struggle bus.
That’s not the place to be when the highest-paying race of the season is on deck at the track operated by your team owner.
But Gravel and crew chief Cody Jacobs found something in their race car on Friday night and lived up to the billing in Saturday’s $300,000-to-win finale.
Gravel had speed throughout the night and earned the pole for the 40-lap finale. He lived up to the pressure of racing for big money at team owner Tod Quiring’s track by leading every lap and holding off a valiant charge from Tyler Courtney.
Gravel earned the largest payoff in World of Outlaws history.
