ALGER, Wash. — For the second straight night, Skagit Speedway fans left the facility in a state of disbelief after the incredible feature and finish they say at The Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by the Angel of the Winds Casino Resort.
Jason Solwold led the first seven laps of the A Main before James McFadden reeled him in and took the top spot. For the next 15 plus laps, the crowd watched Solwold chase down and pressure McFadden in trying to take the lead back.
The pair went side by side for a number of laps before a lap 24 caution brought the field to a stop. On the restart, Justin Sanders found a monster run around the top of the three-tenths-mile track and used it to threaten Solwold for the second spot, eventually overtaking him on lap 27.
McFadden had moved around the track looking for late race moisture and ended up using the low side coming to the white flag where Sanders had speed and momentum around the top.
At the white flag, Sanders trailed McFadden by .165 seconds but used all the speed he’d mustered around the top to get around James at the exit of turn two before diving to the bottom of turn three to slam the door shut and off the exit of turn four, secured the $10,000 win in front of a stunned but rowdy crowd.
McFadden and Tanner Holmes rounded out the podium.
Jesse Schlotfeldt was fast time.
Chad Kincaid became the second driver in as many nights to win his feature in the CGE Garage midgets. Kincaid led all twenty five laps of the main event.
