TULSA, Okla. — Zach Daum would use precision, patience, and late-race traffic to capture his 25th career feature victory with the POWRi National Midget League in night one of the annual Charlene Meents Memorial at Port City Raceway, taking command of the field in the closing laps of a thrilling feature event.
Launching the feature field would find high-point qualifier Daum and Jonathan Beason leading the field to the green flag, with Beason gaining the initial advantage on the opening lap.
Establishing himself as the early frontrunner, Beason would maintain command of the field for the majority of the feature event, keeping the hard-charging duo of Daum and Kale Drake at bay through 26 laps of intense competition.
Drake would briefly surge into the top spot for avsingle circuit before Beason battled back to reclaim the lead.
With lapped traffic becoming a factor in the closingvstages, Daum would capitalize on a near-perfect low line to work his way into contention. Using precision and patience, Daum would make the race-winning move in the final laps before surviving late-race restarts to secure the thrilling victory.
Drake would charge into the runner-up position as the checkered flag waved, with longtime race leader Jonathan Beason rounding out the podium after an impressive performance.
“This is so cool,” said Daum. “The bottom came in at about the perfect time for me when we hit lapped traffic. The car is really good right now, and the team is working well together. Looking forward to doing it again tomorrow night.”
Remaining in contention throughout the event, Karter Sarff would finish fourth, while Kyle Jones recovered to complete the top five.
