Despite having 13 410 winged sprint car features rained out or postponed over the Memorial Day weekend, there is a new leader atop the National Sprint Car Rankings.
Aaron Reutzel, who won a High Limit feature at Grandview Speedway in Pennsylvania and Saturday’s World of Outlaws main event at Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway, reached the required 20 starts to be eligible for the national rankings and grabbed the top spot from World of Outlaws point leader David Gravel.
Reutzel, driver of the No. 87 Ridge & Sons sprint car, has an average finish of 4.810 in 21 starts. Gravel’s average finish is 5.0 in 23 races.
Carson Macedo, Chase Dietz and Buddy Kofooid round out the top five as 25 drivers are now eligible for the national rankings with 478 racers having participated in at least one feature.
A winner at Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway, Carson Macedo has taken the top spot in the Mid-America region, while Ryan Timms has gained control of the Great Plains region.
Other regional leaders are Dietz (Eastern), Reutzel (Western), Jacob Bergenwald (PA-OH), Darin Naida (Great Lakes) and Robbie Price (Northwestern).
Sixty-two drivers have combined to win 112 features run this season.
Reutzel and Dietz have each won eight main events.
