Open Wheel Showdown Entry Hits 65

IRWINDALE, Calif. — In only 30 hours, the entry list for the second running of the Open Wheel Showdown reached its cap of 65 drivers and teams on Friday afternoon.

“We are at our cap on sprint car entries within 30 hours,” said promoter Davey Hamilton Jr. “Incredible.”

Fifty entries were received on Thursday for the $50,000-to-win winged sprint car race that will be run Nov. 22-24 at Irwindale Speedway.

Last year, only 26 entries were received on the first day.

The list is headlined by Canadian Aaron Willison who drove his No. 14w machine to victory in the inaugural event that was run Dec. 2 at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Other entries include event promoter Davey Hamilton Jr., Bobby Santos III, Mike Murgoitio, Tyler Roahrig, Jake Trainor, Evan Margeson, Jason Blonde, Nathan Byrd, Robbie Price and Arie Luyendyk Jr.

The event will be broadcast by SPEEDSPORT.tv.
