PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Preston Norbury won the 87th season opening Bay Cities Racing Association Midget main event at Placerville Speedway Saturday night.
Norbury started on the outside front row and at the green flag polesitter Michael Faccinto took the early lead until slight contact between the two caused Faccinto to spin early in the 30-lap main event.
From then on Norbury held off all challenges to win. Dane Culver passed Caden Sarale late to race second and tried all he could to catch the leader including pulling some impressive wheel stands but Norbury was just too fast to catch.
Defending champion Sarale raced third at the checkered flag and Faccinto recovered to finish fourth. Nine-time BCRA Champion Floyd Alvis finished ninth at age 91.
BCRA has been sanctioning racing since 1939.
