Virginia Motor Speedway Set To Close

JAMAICA, Va. — After much deliberation and thought, track owner Bill Sawyer has decided to cease operations at Virginia Motor Speedway after 25 seasons of racing under his ownership.

With a severe financial climate since the pandemic, the cost of operation has increased yearly due to out-of-control inflation.

Every aspect, not only for Virginia Motor Speedway, but also for our competitors and fans visiting the speedway.

“I wish there was an answer, but this decision wasn’t made easy. I am very sorry to have to make this decision,” said Sawyer.

The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway will operate and host two mud bog / Mega Truck events in 2025: Mud Mayhem on May 17 and the Run-A-Muck Mud Bog on October 4.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a half-mile dirt oval track located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, Va.
