Birkhofer Cruises At Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Beautiful weather and fast racecars made for an enjoyable evening, Friday, at Davenport Speedway. The second points night of the 2026 season yielded only one repeat winner from the season opener.

Cruz Birkhofer dominated The Outhouse / Storage to Go – IMCA Late Models. Birkhofer started seventh in the feature and would not see the lead until lap 16. Once in front, he drove away from the field. Cruz took the checkers more than two seconds ahead of second place Andy Nezworski.

Early race leader Logan Veloz held on for a third place finish. Nathan Balensiefen and Chuck Hanna rounded out the top five.

Logan Veloz was not to be denied in the Midwest Recyclers / Del’s Metal Co. – IMCA Modifieds. Chris Zogg jumped out to the early lead in the Mod main. However a caution with 5 laps to go would be his undoing.

After the restart, Veloz used the low line to perfection, while Zogg had a hard time keeping pace on the highside. Veloz’ margin of victory was nearly half a second. Zogg took second, ahead of Spencer Diercks, Tony VonDresky and Shane Paris.

The only repeat winner of the evening was Koehler Electric – Street Stock driver Blake Woodruff. Blake started deep in the field, took the lead at halfway, and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Woodruff’s toughest challenge came from Scotty Pratt in his return to the Street Stock class. Jesse Owen finished third followed by Jake Lund and Cary Brown.

Jordan Hicks finally had things go his way in the Freds Towing / Cantrell Towing / QC Towing – IMCA SportMods. Hicks started tenth and saw the lead on the tenth lap. Tony Olson was closing in the final circuits, but Jordan was able to secure the win. It was his first win at Davenport since 2021.

Olson finished second, ahead of Ben Chapman, Bryson Eckrich and Josh Starr.

Jacob Ellithorpe avenged his season opener loss in the D & K Home Products – IMCA Stock Cars. In the opener, Jacob was leading at the white flag, only to lose a drive shaft on the final lap.

This time around Ellithorpe led all fifteen laps of the feature, leaving no doubt.

Tony Olson’s car finished second.

Tires is what wins races. It is even true in the Wangelin’s Auto – IMCA Hobby Stocks. Randy LaMar inherited the lead after a late race caution. LaMar led the final two laps for the win.
