BANKS, Ore. — Two-time IMCA Wild West Speedweek champion Collen Winebarger used a late restart to capture the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature and open the 2026 tour at Sunset Speedway Park with his 14th series victory.
Jeff Lovell led the opening lap and quickly established a comfortable advantage. The leader encountered lapped traffic on lap eight but continued to maintain a strong pace as the race remained under green.
A caution on lap 15 brought the field back together and allowed Winebarger, aboard the John Gaynor-owned No. 99x, to begin mounting a serious challenge. Another caution on lap 19 proved pivotal, as the Corbett driver maneuvered into the lead down the backstretch on lap 20.
A final caution on lap 23 set up one more restart, but Winebarger was flawless when racing resumed and drove away for his first DeVilbiss Racing Chassis Western Region victory of the season. The win was his 14th Wild West Speedweek triumph, second series victory at Sunset Speedway Park after previously winning there in 2021, and first Speedweek victory since 2024.
The race also served as a Fast Shafts All-Star Modified Invitational qualifier, placing Winebarger on the eligibility to try and qualify list for the event at the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s in September.
Grey Ferrando, the 2024 Cocopah Speedway and 2017 Cottage Grove Speedway track champion, made a last-corner, last-lap pass to steal second after starting eighth. Lovell settled for third, while two-time reigning Wild West Speedweek champion and 2019 Western Region titleholder Bricen James charged from 13th to fourth. Matt Sanders, winner of the last two Wild West Speedweek SportMod championships, completed the top five.
Defending Western Region and Oregon State champion Kevin Williamson advanced from 16th to seventh in the Superior Fuel Cells No. 42 entry.
B.J. Wild emerged victorious in a thrilling Sunoco IMCA Stock Car feature, earning his fourth career Wild West Speedweek victory.
Eighteen-year-old Tallon Dubisar led the opening laps before three-time series champion Chase Berkeley worked his way into second on lap six. Berkeley eventually took command and appeared poised to take control despite a trio of mid-race cautions.
A caution on lap 19 changed everything. On the ensuing restart, Collen Winebarger, driving the Jimmy Schram-owned No. 22S, challenged Berkeley for the lead. As the pair raced side-by-side, reigning series champion Wild seized the opportunity in the Dwayne Klein-owned No. 22K, executing a double pass to take over the top spot on lap 21.
One final caution on lap 22 set up a dramatic finish, but Wild held firm despite pressure from Winebarger over the closing circuit. The Colville, Washington, driver, by way of Redmond, earned his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season, first Wild West Speedweek win at Sunset Speedway Park, and fourth career series triumph at three different tracks.
Winebarger finished second, while Berkeley crossed the line third. Two-time defending Sunset Speedway Park track champion Don Jenner advanced from 10th to fourth, and Tyler Pagel charged from 11th to complete the top five.
Trevor Points captured the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMod feature to score his first victory of the 2026 season.
Lyle Yeager led the opening laps before the two-time defending Oregon State champion worked his way to the front on lap three. Once in command, Points quickly established himself as the driver to beat.
Seventeen-year-old Tyler Johnson, the 2024 National Rookie of the Year from Arizona, moved into second on lap five and remained the closest challenger for the remainder of the contest. A caution on lap 12 arrived just before lapped traffic became a factor, while another yellow on lap 21 erased Points’ advantage late.
Despite the pressure, the Salem driver executed a perfect restart and held off Johnson over the final laps. The victory was Points’ first of 2026 and second career Wild West Speedweek triumph, with his first coming at Sunset Speedway Park in 2022.
Johnson finished second, followed by Yeager in third. Chad Knee crossed the stripe fourth, while Kody Greer rounded out the top five.
The event was broadcast live on IMCA TV.
