Home Track Hero Wins Hampton Heat

HAMPTON, Va. — Matt Waltz entered Saturday’s Hampton Heat with redemption on his mind.

Waltz, who was disqualified from a second-place run at Virginia’s South Boston Speedway in the first leg of the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown, bounced back in splendid fashion.

The 2017 Langley Speedway champion won his home track’s biggest race, winning despite a four-hour rain delay.

Waltz, who earned $10,000, was the leader at the halfway break when the storm arrived. He never looked back.

“I’ve been trying to win this thing for a long time, so to come out here after so many years and be able to win this thing, it’s awesome,” Waltz said. “So fired up. We had such a good race car today.”

Connor Hall finished second, with Brenden Queen, Woody Howard and Kade Brown completing the top five.

The finish:

Matt Waltz, Connor Hall, Brenden Queen, Woody Howard, Kade Brown, Carson Loftin, Peyton Sellers, Ronnie Bassett Jr., Trevor Ward, Brandon Pierce, Daniel Silvestri, Cody Bryant, Darren Krantz Jr., Ryan Matthews, Ryan Millington, Doug Barnes Jr., Deac McCaskill, Parker Eatmon, Landon Pembelton, Chase Burrow, Greg Edwards, Atley Wiese, Chase Johnson, London McKenzie, Trey Williams, Andrew Condrey, Justin Carroll, Jonathan Shafer, Chris Horton Jr., Mason Bailey, Tate Fogleman, Ayden Millette, Blake Stallings, Dustin Storm, Bobby McCarty, Sam Yarbrough, Jacob Derrick, Craig Eastep.
