WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. — Connor Zilisch continued his mastery of the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Watkins Glen Int’l, winning the pole for Saturday afternoon’s Mission 200 At The Glen.
Zilisch, who won last year’s Xfinity Series race at the historic road course in what was his debut in the series.
Driving the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, Zilisch turned a lap of 70.884 seconds at 124.429 mph.
It was his fifth pole of the season and his sixth pole in 26 career Xfinity Series races. Zilisch will have to battle a familiar foe to win the race. Shane van Gisbergen with whom Zilisch defeated at Sonoma Raceway earlier this year after losing a fight with the New Zealand driver in Chicago, qualified second in another JR Motorsports entry.
Taylor Gray will start third in a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, while last week’s winner Sam Mayer starts fourth in a Haas Factory Ford.
William Sawalich rounded out the top five in a second JGR entry.
