MIAMI — Australian Oscar Piastri enters the fourth running of the Miami Grand Prix with a 10-point lead over McLaren teammate Lando Norris in the Formula 1 standings.
As teams prepare to get on the track at the Miami Int’l Autodrome, Piastri says the best approach for his team is more of the same.
“The process is exactly the same. Go out and try to win the race,” said Piastri, who has won three of the five races this season. “That side of things is no different. We should be competitive here. We have had a consistently strong car this year, but with the temperatures here, I think we’ll need to see how that affects different people.
“Trying to pick out the main competitors here this weekend is pretty tough to choose at the moment. Let’s see, but we should be in a good place.”
Piastri said leading the points doesn’t add any pressure to his situation.
“To be honest, it doesn’t really feel that much different,” said Piastri. “Again I’m not really that concerned with that. I’m just trying to get the best performance I can every weekend and make sure I drive as well as possible, and make the car as good as possible.
“I think, for myself I quite enjoy being in the position of being hunted because normally that means you are doing something right. I’m pretty relaxed, the gap is very small and we are only at round five or six now, so I’m not too concerned with that.”
Piastri recognizes the Miami circuit as unique.
“It’s very unique. Racing around a stadium is pretty different and we don’t have that anywhere else in the world,” he said. “Miami is a renowned city in the regular world. It is cool to have a race here and there are always a lot of big names and fans.”
