Marquez Rallies To Top Of The Ladder

MISANO ADRIATICO — Marc Marquez trailed by 102 points seven races ago. Now, he is the MotoGP point leader.

Marquez is tied atop the standings with Jorge Martin, who entered the Red Bull Grand Prix of San Marino at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli as the point leader.

“We’ve never given up and we’ve kept pushing right to the end. This isn’t over yet. We’re right there, fighting for the championship against some very strong riders, especially [Jorge] Martín and [Marco] Bezzecchi,” Marquez said. “But as we saw today, we’re riding on the limit, and one small mistake can cost you a lot of points. In the race, after Bezzecchi made a mistake, I relaxed a little and Martín attacked me, but I regained my confidence and was able to maintain the pace. I’m very happy because these 37 points at Misano mean a lot.”

Marquez took advantage of Marco Bezzecchi’s crash on the first lap to go to the front.

Riding his Ducati Lenovo machine, Marquez held off his younger brother Alex, who rides for BK8 Gresini, by .657 seconds to earn his fifth victory of the campaign and the 78th of his career.

Pedro Acosta was third for Red Bull KTM with Alex Marquez’s teammate, Fermin Aldeguer, fourth.

Martin brought his Aprilia Racing bike home fifth to salvage a tie with Marquez with eight races remaining in the season.
