With $125,000 on the line, Travis Harvey found himself in the most pressure-packed moment of his drag racing career during Saturday’s IHRA Pro Mod Mania event at Darana Dragway in Milan, Michigan.
How he responded to the Christmas Tree on the starting line was going to matter, and it did.
Facing Melanie Salemi in the final round, the 30-year racing veteran cut a perfect .000 light in his Chevrolet Camaro, and he needed every bit of it to bank top prize.
Salemi turned in a .023 reaction time and Harvey’s 3.605 elapsed time in the eighth mile edged out Salemi’s quicker 3.602 ET to earn the big money.
Harvey qualified ninth and defeated Randy Weatherford, Paige Coughlin and top qualifier Jason Harris en route to the final round.
