RIO VISTA, Texas — The International Hot Rod Ass’n has entered an agreement to purchase the Southern Drag Boat Ass’n.
The IHRA plans to build on the foundation that the SDBA has developed over the past 51 years while investing heavily in elevating drag boat racing to a much larger platform. The new national series will feature all sportsman and pro classes, including Fuel boats.
“This is a massive opportunity for the sport,” said Cody Childress, co-owner of SDBA. “We’ve worked tirelessly to grow drag boat racing and with IHRA’s resources and vision the ceiling is limitless.”
Travis Tutle, fellow co-owner of SDBA, added: “The IHRA has the horsepower and know how to take drag boat racing to a new level. We’re proud to partner with them in this transition and can’t wait to see what the future holds. I’m especially excited to see a brand-new national series come to life — it’s something our sport has needed for a long time.”
The SDBA will remain active and play a key role in ensuring a smooth transition throughout the 2026 season and beyond.
