California native Justin Sanders had been close to winning a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series race multiple times, but it had always slipped from his grasp.
On Saturday night, the 34-year-old driver got the job done, and he couldn’t have picked a better time. Sanders won the Dennis Roth Classic at the Stockton Dirt Track, earning $83,000 in a race that honors Hall of Fame car owner Dennis Roth.
Driving the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x, Sanders took the lead at the start of the 40-lapper. However, Emerson Axsom used traffic to his advantage to grab the lead on lap 28.
Sanders never gave up and lapped traffic played a role again. With Axsom bottled up behind a slower car, Sanders powered to the bottom of the track and into the lead on the final turn and beat Axsom to the checkered flag to finally beat the Outlaws.
