MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Team owner Kasey Kahne confirmed on Twitter on Thursday that 2013 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series champion Daryn Pittman will return to the team for this weekend’s two races.
Pittman, who drove the Kasey Kahne Racing No. 9 for several seasons, winning multiple races and the championship, will step in for Kahne, who continues to recover from an accident at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park in February.
Pittman will drive the car Friday at Lawton Speedway in his native Oklahoma and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Texas.

“I’ve been working hard to get back to feeling 100% after my wreck in Volusia,” Kahne wrote on Twitter. “It will be nice to be back at the track this weekend and support my friend @DarynPittman in the No. 9.”
Kahne was attempting to run the complete World of Outlaws schedule for the first time in his career aboard his own No. 9 sprint car.
Pittman, who hasn’t raced a sprint car this season, also confirmed his presence in the car for this weekend’s events.
Seeing my name (and a @UltraShieldRace seat 😁) on the 9 car again just hits different. Ready to go do some racing at 2 of my favorite tracks and have some fun with my friends! https://t.co/M09Tqcp2zZ
