ROSSBURG, Ohio — Aaron Reutzel made a triumphant return to Eldora Speedway on Friday night.
The Texas sprint car driver suffered a broken foot in a crash at the half-mile track in July and returned to win Friday’s High Limit Racing feature during the 4-Crown Nationals.
Reutzel drove the Ridge & Sons No. 87 past Rico Abreu on a restart with two laps remaining and led to the checkered flag for his seventh High Limit win of the season.
“How’s that song go? Hello, darkness, my old friend, that’s kind of what it felt like rolling into this place,” Reutzel said. “I thought I was going be a little nervous at first. Of course, it wasn’t nice and easy. It was rough early, and my car was not handling the ruts very good, and we went to work on it. I thought I was going to be a little nervous, but I guess I’m just too stupid to be nervous once I strapped in, I forgot all about it. Through the holes I went up against the wall and felt right back at home.”
Abreu came home second with Chase Randall, Justin Peck and Brady Bacon completing the top five.
Abreu was the fast qualifier with a lap of 12.258 seconds.
