Kody Swanson was both fast and patient en route to winning the third running of the Open Wheel Showdown Saturday night at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Swanson started fourth and bided his time aboard Dick Myers’ No. 50m machine, waiting for the opportune moment to strike.
Swanson finished the first 50-lap segment in second position and turned up the heat on leader Jeff Montgomery as the final 50-lap run to the checkered flag began.
Swanson stormed to the high side of the three-eighths-mile asphalt track to take the lead on lap 63. Swanson led the rest of the distance to claim the $50,000 winner’s prize for the second consecutive November.
