MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — For the second week in a row, Chase Dietz scored the 410 sprint main at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night.
The victory was the eighth of his career at the oval, his third of the year there and his 22nd overall win on the season.
Dietz wrestled the lead away from Justin Whittall in the dash to earn the pole for the 25-lap National Open Tune Up event.
And when green appeared on the main event Whittall went to work turning the tables on Dietz.
As Dietz rode the top lane Whittall drove low in the first and second turns on the third circuit to out run the leader onto the backstretch.
And then shortly after getting control, the first caution flag of the race appeared on lap four for a stopped Dave Grube.
By lap 11 Whittall was holding a 1.8-second lead over Dietz before entering the rear of the field with 13 away.
With 10 laps to go Whittall’s margin over Dietz was up to 2.012 seconds but that advantage was erased with seven laps to go when Freddie Rahmer slowed on the frontstretch.
Whittall took off from Dietz when green reappeared and was back out to a 1.2 second lead in just one lap when he suddenly slowed and spun upon entering the third turn with apparent mechanical ills.
That remanded the point over to Dietz who had Logan Rumsey giving chase on the restart.
Rumsey had just raced to the outside of Dylan Norris for third when misfortune struck Whittall.
Rumsey proved to be no match for Dietz however as the York speedster cruised to a 3.070-second win.
Norris was third followed by Buddy Schweibinz and Lance Dewease.
The victory for Dietz also earned him the 2026 Hoosier Diamond Series title at the track.
In the 358 sprint main, Reece Raudabaugh piloted to the win in what was just one of his first starts in the division.
After finishing 12th, Derek Locke of Mechanicsburg wrapped up the 2026 track title in the division.
The crown is the fourth of his career at Williams Grove Speedway.
