Swindell & Axsom Headline Wednesday At The Chili Bowl

TULSA, Okla. — Five-time Chili Bowl Nationals winner Sammy Swindell headlines Wednesday night’s York Plumbing Qualifying Night that includes rising stars such as Emerson Axsom, Corey Day and Daison Pursley.

Swindell, 70, who won the prestigious event for the fifth time in 2009, will drive his own No. 1 midget as he pursues a record sixth Chili Bowl triumph.

Axsom, who won the Wednesday night feature during last year’s Chili Bowl, will drive the No. 39a machine entered by Kevin Swindell as he hopes to build on last season when he finished ninth in Saturday night’s main event.

Driving Willie Kahne’s No. 41 Machine, Corey Day starts his pursuit of a first Chili Bowl victory Wednesday. Day, who will drive for Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR O’Reilly Parts Series this season, won the Wednesday preliminary feature in 2024. Day also won the Turkey Night Grand Prix in November.

Tulsa Shootout winner and many-time national midget winner Daison Pursley, who races full-time with High Limit Racing, will also be among the top contenders, driving the No. 86 midget for CB Industries.

Full-time USAC racers Thomas Meseraull, Kevin Thomas, Kale Drake and Mitchel Moles will also be in action on Wednesday.

Pennsylvania brothers Steve and Tim Buckwalter and fellow Keystone state racer Alex Bright are also entered.

Others to watch include Colton Robinson, Aiden Price, Cap Henry and Austin Torgerson.
