Danner Quick During Boardwalk Hall TQ Drills

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The excitement level for the NAPA Auto Parts Atlantic City Indoor Races was kicked up a few notches Thursday night as cars hit the speedway for the first time during a blistering practice session at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.

Briggs Danner showed sensational speed throughout the four-hour session to quickly establish himself as one of the pre-race favorites. The Allentown, PA driver’s sizzling 8.046 second lap in Practice 4 was good enough for the top time of the day. Danner also ran an 8.243 second lap to pace Practice 3 and an 8.487 second lap during the opening session.

Four-time Gambler’s Classic winner Andy Jankowiak was right on Danner’s heels as the Tonawanda, NY native ran an exceptional 8.081 second lap in the final session and an 8.399 second lap to lead Practice 2. Matt Janisch’s 8.317 second lap topped the brigade in Practice 1.

In addition to the TQ Midgets’ practice, the Slingshots, Champ Karts and Dirt 600 Micros also took the track to give a preview of their distinct, high-energy action. Mike Perry, of Dighton, MA, stood out in the Champ Karts, clocking in the fastest time of 8.661 seconds. Brett Bieber, of Oley, PA, rocketed his Slingshot around in 9.453 seconds to lead that category, while Tom Fraschetta’s lap of 9.528 seconds, topped the Micro division.
