CHICO, Calif. — Rico Abreu raced from ninth on the grid to claim victory on the opening night of the 72nd annual Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway.
Driving the No. 24 Tony Stewart Racing machine, Abreu held off Kaleb Montgomery aboard Kevin Kozlowski’s No. W car to earn his 30th career Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing victory.
James McFadden romped from 21st on the quarter-mile race track to finish third, while polesitter Max Mittry came home fourth. Shane Golobic completed the top five.
Montgomery ended the night as the high-point earner.
