Trans Am Notes: A Long History At Lime Rock Park

LAKEVILLE, Conn. — The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli is back on the East Coast to contest the Lime Rock SpeedTour at Lime Rock Park’s Trans Am Memorial Day Classic.

Trans Am racing at the 1.478-mile circuit over Memorial Day Weekend has become a longstanding tradition since the series took the green flag for the first time at Lime Rock Park on Memorial Day of 1967.

Since then, 24 of Trans Am’s 42 races held at Lime Rock have been on Memorial Day Weekend.

Seven drivers entered in four different classes have previously stood on the top step of the podium at Lime Rock Park. TA’s Chris Dyson and TA2’s Thomas Merrill are both tied with TA driver Dorsey Schroeder for the most Trans Am wins at the track with three victories each.

Dyson Returns

Chris Dyson (No. 16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang) drove to GYM WEED Winners Circle for the first time this season in a redemptive West Coast Swing where he scored a second-place finish at Sonoma Raceway and his first win of 2025 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Dyson’s California victory means the three-time champion now has 27 National Championship wins, putting him fourth overall on the all-time TA-class win list, just one triumph away from tying fellow Trans Am Hall of Famer Tommy Kendall.

Now Dyson heads to his home track of Lime Rock Park, where he has stood on the top step of the podium three times in the past, most recently in 2022. He will be joined by teammate Matthew Brabham (No. 21 allgram Ford Mustang). Brabham won in his only start this season at Road Atlanta, where he filled in for an injured Dyson. This time he will be behind the wheel of the same car that he drove to a second-place finish at Lime Rock Park in 2022.

Nitro Adds Heim

Nitro Motorsports heads to Lime Rock Park with a strong stable this weekend, and one of the names on their roster is a face we haven’t seen in a while in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series.

Corey Heim (No. 10 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry) competes full time in the NASCAR Truck Series and is currently leading the points in the series following victories at Daytona Int’l Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway. Heim last raced in the Trans Am Series in 2022.

Nitro Motorsports has been responsible for three victories in four races this season, with Thomas Annunziata (No. 90 Gazoo Racing/Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry) winning the opening two events, and Brent Crews driving to the GYM WEED Winners Circle at Sonoma Raceway.

Menard vs. Andretti

Just four races into the season, Paul Menard has already driven to victory lane twice in his No. 3 Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Ford Mustang, taking the trophy at both Sebring Int’l Raceway and Sonoma Raceway.

With more wins than anyone else in the TA class, he once again sits at the top of the point standings. However, with three second-place finishes, Adam Andretti (No. 17 Top Liner Chevrolet Camaro) is lurking just 12 points behind him, setting up what could be a very interesting chase for the championship. Menard is currently in pursuit of his second-consecutive title, while Andretti is chasing his first.

Drissi Moving Up

In the 11 days that comprised the West Coast Swing at Sonoma Raceway and Laguna Seca, Tomy Drissi (No. 8 Trench Shoring Co./Motul Chevrolet Camaro) gained two spots in the TA point standings, improving from fifth to third after back-to-back top-five finishes.

While Drissi has never driven to victory lane at Lime Rock, he has stood on the podium multiple times since making his debut at the track during his 1999 Rookie of the Year season, with his most recent podium in 2021 when he finished second. In Trans Am’s last visit to the track, Drissi earned the pole award by just 0.03 seconds in a wet-weather qualifying session.

Matos Back on Top

Three-time champion Rafa Matos is on top of the world and on top of the point standings following his victory at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Matos piloted his No. 57 Concord American Flagpole/SHR Chevrolet Camaro to his first win of 2025 and the 26th of his career in Trans Am’s last outing, raising the bar as the winningest driver in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series, in addition to taking the points lead for the first time this year.

Matos holds just a one-point advantage over second-place Tristan McKee in the No. 28 Spire/Gainbridge/SLR-M1 Chevrolet Camaro, who scored two-consecutive podium finishes during the back-to-back California events.

Mosack is Back

For the first time this season, Connor Mosack will be back behind the wheel of a TA2 car. Mosack, who has been racing in Trans Am since 2020, returns to TeamSLR, the team he drove for full time in 2021 and 2022 and scored two victories with, to pilot the No. 8 NAPA NightVision/Mission Foods/SLR-M1 Chevrolet Camaro.

Mosack is running full time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series this season for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing and competing in Friday night’s Truck race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, meaning he will miss this weekend’s TA2 practice sessions, but will arrive at Lime Rock in time to qualify on Saturday morning.

Young Gun

Fourteen-year-old Tristan McKee has had a stellar season so far, finishing no worse than seventh in four events, and following back-to-back podium finishes in the California races, McKee has captured the top spot in the Young Gun Award standings.

The TeamSLR driver holds an 18-point advantage over second place Thomas Annunziata (No. 90 Gazoo Racing/Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry). Annunziata’s Nitro Motorsports teammates make up the remainder of the top-five in the standings, with Julian DaCosta (No. 30 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang) third, Sam Corry (No. 70 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry) fourth, and Boris Said Jr. (No. 60 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry) rounding out the top five.
