BOWMANVILLE, Ontario — Practice and qualifying have concluded for the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Chris Dyson in the No. 16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang captured the pole award with a blazing-fast time of 1:13.613, besting last year’s polesitter Paul Menard (No. 31 Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Ford Mustang) by less than a tenth of a second.
“I’m so excited to be back up here at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park,” said Dyson. “You know, this is Mosport; this has been a place we’ve been coming for several decades. Wonderful to reconnect with our fans up here, and I think to be putting the GYM WEED car out front is just a great start to the weekend. We really come to this place excited every year. It’s one of the fastest tracks on the calendar; so demanding, so challenging. As a driver, one of the purest experiences you can have in a racing car. I can’t wait for the race tomorrow.”
In the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series, Tyler Gonzlaez in the No. 10 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry captured his first Trans Am pole award, laying down a lap time of 1:18.381.
“We just got the pole here at [Canadian Tire Motorsport Park], good start to the weekend for sure,” said Gonzalez. “We’ll see what we can do tomorrow; hopefully we’ll capitalize on all those opportunities out there and come home with a win.”
Roberto Sabato (No. 61 6th Gear Garage Ford Mustang) was the fastest in Pro/Am Challenge at his home track with a time of 1:19.117, while Canadian James Beaton was the fastest in XGT, driving his No. 82 Playtime Hot Rods & Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette to a lap time of 1:18.356.
