SYDNEY — Cam Waters completed a clean sweep of the Repco Supercars Championship opening weekend in the Thrifty Sydney 500 after winning Sunday’s event.
Starting from the pole position, Waters wheeled his Tickford Racing Ford to the victory in dominant fashion, despite rainfall coming late in the race.
It was the third straight victory for Waters on the weekend as he also set the fastest lap in all three rounds.
“How awesome is that? That’s such a mega weekend, and such an awesome way to start 2025,” Waters said.
“I thought we were going to have fast cars this weekend, but not that fast. It’s awesome to be able to convert it when you’ve actually got a fast car. I can’t thank my team enough for giving me something this good, and the pit stops were good, and we executed well.
“I knew they were going to be lying to me [about the weather], they always do. I had a really good margin there, and I could kind of back it off with five to go and just bring it home,” Waters continued.
“Even when it was kind of a little bit wet at the end there, the car was still really fast. The rain was actually quite nice, it cooled the cabin temps down a little bit, it was pretty hot in this Monster Mustang.”
Defending Supercars champion Will Brown placed second ahead of a hard-charging Chaz Mostert in third, who started 10th on the grid.
Brodie Kostecki placed fourth after passing Broc Feeney in the final laps.
Matt Payne, Anton De Pasquale, James Golding, Will Davison and Jack Le Brocq completed the top 10.
Following his near-perfect weekend, Waters heads to the Melbourne SuperSprint next month with a 60-point lead in the standings over Brown.
