Thornton Does It Again At Central Arizona

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Round two of eight for the IMCA.tv Winter Nationals drew 234 cars competing in five IMCA sanctioned divisions Thursday night at Central Arizona Raceway.

Modified action saw Dylan Thornton use his outside front row starting spot to break away from the field.

But Chaz Baca pulled away from the others also.

Thornton and Baca put on a show and Baca sliders almost got the job done. A final-lap, turn-three slider got Baca alongside Thornton out of turn four and last night’s winner barely won the race to checkers.

Thornton was a foot or two ahead of Baca at the finish line to make it two for two in the Winter Nationals. Third place belonged to Brandon Beckendorf.

Stock cars started the night with a tight race. Kaden Woodie led from the green with Dillon Richards on his bumper every lap.

After 9 laps Richards and Woodie were into turn four side by side and Richards used the lower line to take the lead.

Now, it’s was Woodie on the bumper of the new leader. Richards led but a restart with five laps changed the race.

Cameron Starry used the top of turn two to drive past Richards and controlled the final five laps to get the win over Richards and Bo Partain.

The Northern SportMod main was dominated by Tyler Johnson for two in a row.  Jake Sachau was second from 17th starting and Kaden Woodie took third.

Hobby stocks had a contact-ridden main won by 15th-starting Zach Olmstead and Dillon Raffurty won his second mod lite main.

The event was broadcast live on IMCA TV affiliate Done Right TV. Catch every lap again with the IMCA TV Replay Subscription, available for just $24.99/month. And don’t miss Season 2 of the Boone Docuseries, now streaming exclusively on IMCA TV.
