BOONE, Iowa — Dylan Van Wyk battled Adam Armstrong and two-time defending champion Jake Sachau before pulling away late to capture his first Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s championship Saturday at Boone Speedway.
The Oskaloosa, Iowa, driver collected $5,000 for winning the 30-lap Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMod Big Dance.
Van Wyk grabbed the lead from the three-wide start and paced the opening circuit before Armstrong moved to the front on lap two.
The Nebraska driver, a 2016 Harris Clash and 2023 Spring Nationals winner, began to pull away with Van Wyk as the pair separated themselves from the field.
Sachau entered the fight, first challenging for second before turning his attention toward Armstrong.
Van Wyk responded in a big way. The two-time defending CJ Speedway track champion and 2025 34 Raceway track champion rocketed past Sachau and Armstrong in turn four to reclaim the lead on lap six.
Armstrong stayed after Van Wyk and appeared to regain the top spot just before a caution came out on lap eight, keeping Van Wyk at the front for the restart.
Van Wyk took off when the green returned while Armstrong and Sachau battled behind him.
Armstrong eventually secured second, but by then Van Wyk had constructed a massive advantage.
Sachau worked his way back around Armstrong for second on lap 13 before a caution on lap 17 again brought everyone to Van Wyk’s rear bumper.
Armstrong mounted another charge and challenged Van Wyk on lap 19, but the leader kept him behind. Another caution on lap 21 provided one more opportunity for his pursuers.
Van Wyk was a rocket on the final restart as he shot away from the field and never looked back, driving to the victory.
Three-time defending South Dakota State champion and 2022 National Rookie of the Year Willy Kirk finished fourth, while 2024 Independence Motor Speedway track champion Cole Suckow advanced from 10th to finish fifth.
The Pulse Racing Innovations/Dirt Defender Racing Products Race of Champions, originally scheduled for Tuesday before being postponed due to weather, was also contested Saturday.
Defending National champion Brayton Carter of Oskaloosa grabbed the lead on the opening lap and quickly established control.
A caution on lap seven gave the field another opportunity, but Carter remained in command when racing resumed.
Carter dominated the remainder of the race to secure his first career Race of Champions victory.
Vlies finished second, with 2012 Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact National champion and four-time defending Off Road Speedway track champion Cameron Meyer third.
The 2024 Salina Speedway track champion Connor Barnes finished fourth, and Sachau completed the top five.
