Madrid Is Arizona Hobby Stock Master

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Tuesday on the second week of IMCA TV Winter Nationals had two special events plus practice time.

The Gene Freeman Memorial Pit Crew Challenge paid one thousand for the fastest car to change a tire and run a lap.

Luke Silber’s team won the thousand dollars with a time of 48.873 seconds.

It was a night to focus on a lower division with the 33-lap hobby stock race for the top 24 in the IMCA TV Winter Nationals points.

Drew Berry used the backstretch to take the lead on lap two and deal with pressure for the next 26 laps.

Berry held off contenders but a mechanical problem with five laps remaining ended his run.

Anthony Madrid had been just feet behind Berry and inherited the lead after Berry dropped out.

Madrid collected the win with Austin Jahnz and Zachary Bierman completing the podium. Madrid started seventh, Jahnz 11th, and Bierman 16th.

Wednesday will present round five of eight with four IMCA sanctioned divisions as the Mod Lites were scheduled for just the first week.
