Davenport Fans Go Clubbing

DAVENPORT, Iowa — It was a full night, and then some at Davenport Speedway on Friday. Along with the weekly racing program in five classes, the announcement of Davenport Speedway Hall of Fame inductees, a large fireworks display, and the AVS sponsored Street Stock Challenge.

The Koehler Electric – Street Stocks were highlighted by the Street Stock Challenge presented by AVS Hydro Excavating. With lots of bonus money up for grabs, U.M.P. cars came from as far away as Indiana, and several IMCA Stock Cars crossed over to run with the Outlaw Street Stocks.

After winning the IMCA Stock Car main, David Brandies put his ride out front early, leading the first 13 laps of the 20-lap main. Nick Clubb of Coal City, IL took the lead on lap 14, and held the field at bay for the remainder of the race. Cody Clubb blazed his way to second after starting in the eighth position.

Kyle Anderson made it a 1-2-3 sweep for the UMP stockers. The highest local finisher was Scotty Pratt finishing fourth. Jordan Smith rounded out the top five.

Tony VonDresky, Jesse Owen and Cody Clubb won the heat races.

Six late model races, six different winners as the streak continues at Davenport.  The Outhouse / Storage to Go -IMCA Late Model feature was a dandy. Jesse Bodin jumped out to the early lead, holding the top spot for the first ten laps. Nathan Balensiefen was next to lead the parade leading laps 11 to 17. Twelveth place starter Travis Denning forged his way into the lead, for the final eight laps and the win. Balensiefen finished second. Mitch Morris, Logan Veloz, and Jayden Johnson were third through fifth, in that order.

The only repeat winner on the evening came in the Midwest Recyclers / Del’s Metal Co. – IMCA Modifieds. Spencer Diercks collected his third feature win of the season at Davenport. After starting in the fifth row, Diercks rocketed into the lead on lap 10. Spencer used an unusual line to get to the front. He ran at the top of the racetrack in 1 and 2, while scratching the middle in 3 and 4. Diercks held a four second advantage over second place Brandon Durbin at the checkers.

Durbin held on for second, with Andrew Hamburg third. Logan Veloz finished fourth, ahead of fifth place Jace Eckrich.

Point leader Ben Chapman finally claimed his first Freds Towing / Cantrell Towing / QC Towing – IMCA SportMods feature win of the season. Chapman started 10th, and would not see the lead until three laps to go. Chapman would then have to survive a green-white-checkered finish for the win.

Josh Starr started 18th and made a late race charge to finish second. Dakota Cole led 12 laps before finishing third. Bryson Eckrich took fourth and Cole Stichter fifth.

In the D & K Home Products – IMCA Stock Car feature, Andrew Burk raced out to an early lead and managed to hold off the field for 13 laps. David Brandies started seventh and had to pick his way through the pack. Brandies led the final two laps of the race for his first Davenport win of the season. Burk held on to finish second. Jordan Miles took fourth over Keegan Wells and Jacob Ellithorpe.

Also scoring his first Davenport victory of the season was Carson Butt in the Wangelin’s Auto – IMCA Hobby Stocks. Butt got out front early in the caution-riddled affair. Carson had to hold off Karter Miles late in the race to secure the win. Karter Miles finished second with Randy LaMar a distant third. PrestonMcDonald and Chris Peterson rounded out the top five.
