WHEATLAND, Mo. — Nic Bidinger knew he had to win the feature and get some help for a repeat of his Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modified track championship. That’s exactly what happened.
Bidinger, of Perry, Kan., led all 20 laps and, with Chase Sigg running ninth, Hodges also took home the title. It made the visit to victory lane doubly sweet on Night 2 of the Rempfer Memorial Pitts Homes and Realty Challenge Cup weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway.
“We had a good year,” Bidinger said. “We kind of put ourselves behind the 8-ball early in the year with some electrical issues and missed one race. Really coming into last night I knew I had to win at least one of them and probably both of them to get the championship.”
Jon Sheets also doubled up by topping off his Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mod championship with a feature victory.
Bidinger was fast from the start and needed nearly every point to earn the track championship. Third-place feature finisher Dustin Hodges was unofficially 11 behind.
“It worked out really good. I had a hot rod tonight,” Bidinger said. “I could move all over and do what I needed to with the car.”
Friday feature winner Cole Campbell and Dustin Hodges got together and spun to bring out a caution on lap two while running second and third. That happened behind Bidinger.
Bidinger kept rolling after the restart, opening a 4.7-second lead by lap 15 over Bobby Williams. Meanwhile, Sigg, the points leader at the start of the night, continued to fade. Bidinger took he checkers 4.6 seasons clear of Williams with Hodges rallying to third from the early incident. Ryan Middaugh was fourth with Campbell fifth.
Sigg wound up ninth, leaving him 12 behind Bidinger.
Other feature winners were Todd McCoin (Hermitage Lumber Late Models), Austin Kaplan (O’Reilly USRA Stock Cars) and Terry Schultz (Hickamo Super Stocks).
Also earning season championships were Robbe Ewing (Hermitage Lumber Late Models), William Garner (O’Reilly USRA Stock Cars) and Blaine Ewing (Hickamo Super Stocks).
