CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Round six of eight of the IMCA TV Winter Nationals Thursday night at Central Arizona Raceway featured 177 IMCA sanctioned teams in four divisions.
Dylan Thornton won his modified heat followed by redrawing the pole. Having already won three times, a fourth win was likely.
Brandon Beckendorf had other plans. Beckendorf caught up with Thornton and used the top of turn two to become the leader on lap six.
What looked to be settled wasn’t when Thornton erased the gap and used the top of turn four to power past Beckendorf and Thornton led the last five laps for that fourth win.
Beckendorf settled for second and Ethan Braaksma ran third most of the race.
Stock cars were the first main event and Dillion Richards used his outside front row starting spot to take the lead.
After four laps Chaz Baca, starting sixth, took the lead in a turn four little slider. After four laps in front, Baca was passed low in turn one by Cameron Starry.
Starry established a solid lead and the Corpus Christi Texas driver had the win over Baca and Curt Lund.
Northern Sport Mods were all following Nathan Speten for twenty laps in a flag-to-flag drive. Payce Herrera was second and Tyler Johnson was third.
Hobby stocks action closed the evening with a little drama. A bit of contact while approaching the white flag added drama to the finish and it was Zachary Bierman over Joel Magee for the win.The first four cars pulled away from the others and had a little train the entire race.
The event was broadcast live on IMCA TV. Catch every lap again with the IMCA TV Replay Subscription, available for just $24.99/month.
