CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — The fifth of eight races that are the Pitt Stop Motorsports IMCATV Western Nationals drew 220 IMCA-sanctioned cars in five divisions on Wednesday night.
The format remains the same with passing/finishing points in heat races moving the winners and the top point cars to total 16 to the A main. A dozen transfers from B mains create the 28-car fields.
The modified main was first owned by Killon Hibdon until Dylan Thornton took over. Within a couple laps Brandon Beckendorf was right behind Thornton and lap after lap of pressure on a fast track made this one dramatic.
Thornton handled traffic to keep Beckendorf behind him and took the win. Ricky Alvarado was third.
Stock cars were led by Chase Berkeley for the distance but it was far from easy. Cameron Starry pulled alongside Berkeley in turn three but didn’t have the quickest line in turn four.
Berkeley held on to the lead to take the checkered flag ahead of Starry and Mike Albertsen.
It was all Dustin White in the Northern sport mod race with a flag-to-flag win despite Robbie Thome not far behind. Thome was second and Steven Luecht was third.
White earned the pole by winning his heat from eighth-starting spot.
There was no surprise in the hobby stock main when Dillon Richards won again. Blake Luinenburg was second and Dillon Thompson took third.
Mod lites made their first appearance and Kansas City driver Dillon Raffurty posted the win after starting eighth. Iowa drivers Josh Gray and Austin Gray filled the podium.
Action resumes Thursday with round six of the Pitt Stop Motorsports IMCATV Western Nationals. Watch it on IMCA.tv.
