CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Modified racing has been fast and furious on the high banks of Central Arizona Raceway and Friday night that trend continued.
Brandon Beckendorf led 21 laps of the modified main with constant traffic since lap nine and Ethan Braaksma was right behind him.
As the dueling pair started lap twenty-two Braaksma tried a pass on the bottom of turn one and contact with Beckendorf was the result. Beckendorf was towed off and Braaksma restarted deep in the pack.
Tate Johnson was the new leader and four laps later was the winner. Chaz Baca finished second ahead of Logan Drake.
Stock car action was excellent with Chase Berkeley leading three laps before Chaz Baca got the lead out of turn four. But that lasted just one lap.
Berkeley regained the lead leaving turn four one lap later but again Baca took the lead back on the low side out of the popular turn four.
Baca held on to the lead the second time and collected the win while Berkeley edged Shelly Williams in a photo finish for second.
Dillon Richards got his seventh hobby stock win in 10 days although it took further into the race to take the lead. Nathan Deragon and Nathan Olmstead filled the podium.
In mod lite action, Dillon Ruffurty picked up another win over Josh May and Collin Bender.
Kaden Woodie completely controlled the Northern sport mod main with a flag-to-flag drive for the victory. The Milaca, Minn., driver earned a front row spot in heat racing and took advantage of his starting spot.
Dustin White was second and Taylor Kuehl finished third.
The seventh night of the Pitt Stop Motorsports IMCATV Western Nationals at Central Arizona Raceway drew 230 cars on Friday night. The seven-night average is 226.
