MALTA, N.Y. — Despite earning his highest Super DIRTcar Series feature win total in a single season in 2025, Peter Britten wasn’t satisfied.
With two wins, four top fives, and 13 top 10s, the Brisbane, Australia, driver finished eighth in the final standings. It’s a season he called below average.
“I felt like we had some decent nights and obviously showed some speed at times,” Britten said. “Especially during SummerFAST. I just found it hard to get going in the first half of the year. We struggled setup wise. Things that were working [in 2024] weren’t working last year, and we had to reinvent the notebook.
“I was definitely disappointed. But hopefully we went through some pains last year and can be better this year.”
His first chance to improve comes at Albany-Saratoga Speedway in the 61st season opener on Friday, April 17. It’s a place he’s found plenty of success at, winning two track championships and 19 Features. And while he hasn’t reached victory lane in a series event, the “Batman” said he’s feeling confident.
“It’s one we have circled on the calendar,” Britten said. “Going into it, I feel like I have just as good a shot as anybody. Over the years there we’ve been snakebit. The years we’ve had a good car, we’ve had a poor redraw. We’ve just been waiting for things to line up. Things just don’t seem to work out all the time.
“It’d be really awesome to get it done there for the hometown fans and for everyone that helps me out down there, too.”
He knows he can’t only rely on success at his home tracks like Albany-Saratoga and Land of Legends Raceway, he needs to be consistent all year at the 19 different stops on the tour. That includes tracks he’s struggled at like Weedsport Speedway, which the Series visits three times in 2026.
However, he finally broke through with an exciting win at the Central New York oval last year.
“Maybe we’ve turned a corner at [Weedsport],” Britten said. “It was just one of those nights where we had a dominant race car all night. And it’s one of those nights where you just had to not screw everything up, really. The speed was there. Just had to make the right changes for the Feature and do what we did. And that’s what happened. Any Super DIRTcar Series win is great, but especially at Weedsport.”
To make it to the World of Outlaws World Finals championship finale at The Dirt Track Charlotte in November with a chance at the title, Britten knows he needs to have a good start to the season.
“Just need more of everything,” Britten said. “We need to execute better. You’re competing with the cream of the crop, so you’ve got to get hot early. You have to get your feet under you. Last year, it just seemed like we were trying to get back to a baseline that worked. Obviously, to have any chance of winning a Series, you have to be strong right off the bat.
“We’re hoping for a strong start to the year. And if you’re feeling good and running smooth, and motors are staying together, you just have to carry it on from there.”
