Corliss Claims 4th Vermont Governor’s Cup

BARRE, Vt. — It was a big night for Jason Corliss Thursday at Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl.

Corliss earned his fifth late model victory in the Vermont Lottery Governor’s Cup at the historic quarter-mile asphalt track.

Corliss earned the pole position and looked shot from a cannon in the opening circuits. Corliss thundered away with the early lead as Justin Prescott, Fisher, Brandon Gray and Nick Sweet kept pace behind him.

Corliss and Gray kept it interesting out front with the No. 00VT holding tight to the rear bumper of the No. 66VT around the high groove of the Nation’s Site of Excitement. Meanwhile, NASCAR Cup Series winner Ryan Preece maintained a lead lap position until the very late going as Corliss and Gray kept all the momentum at the head of the pack.

With a 75-lap green flag run in the second half of the event, Corliss drove away to his fifth win in the classic event and became the first two-time winner of the Squier Cup.

Gray came home second, ahead of Kaiden Fisher, Nick Sweet and Cody Blake.

Kyle Gravel topped the Flying Tiger feature and Owen Dupuis topped the street stock race.

The finish:
