Hirschman Gets Another One At Evergreen

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Day two of the 24th Annual King of the Green Presented by Niagara Bottling saw a whopping 95 cars jam the pits as all classes were well represented.

In the headline Tour Type Modifieds Matt Hirschman of Northampton scored an unprecedented 10th victory in the track’s marquee event. Frankie Althouse from Lehighton won in the Harry’s U-Pull-It Street Stocks, Jay Kanor of Nanticoke came out on top in the Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders, while Wapwallopen’s Vince Corter grabbed the win with the Rotten-and-Forgotten and Reily O’Keefe of Manorville, NY won for the second straight day with the Legends.

There’s not much that hasn’t been documented on the amazing career of Hirschman other than he continues to build on a legacy of success and Sunday was another notch in his long-list of racing accomplishments belt.

In warm-ups he was fastest of the 23 cars then stayed quick during time trials clicking off the top time with a 13.568-second lap and earning a $200 bonus from Morgantini Racing Engines. He then finished off his day by leading 52 of the 75 laps and winning for the 10th time with the Tour Type Modifieds in the King of the Green (KoG). And when you add his three victories with Sportsman Modifieds there is no other driver that can boast the achievements in this event like him.

Not only did he pick up another Evergreen win, but more so he never lost one this year, making it four straight on the season.

“It’s great to see a good turnout and in the pits especially with such strong car counts. We went perfect on the season here at Evergreen and we also went perfect on the season at Seekonk where we raced last night and won there,” said Hirschman, who’s collected 15 victories in 2025 to date.

“I’m very thankful to see everyone come out, it was a strong weekend here and it shows that there still is potential in this because it’s been tough for some of these race tracks and have weekends like this but Evergreen had a great one here for sure.”

A redraw from time trials placed Mark Stewart and Jacob Kerstetter on the front row with Roger Coss and Hirschman next in line. At the outset Kerstetter led the first lap then gave way to Stewart who held on for the next three circuits until Coss took command.

Coss – who is always strong at Evergreen – led the way while Stewart chased him and had Hirschman on his tail as well. A lap 18 restart gave Hirschman the shot he needed to get by Stewart and just five laps later he outraced Coss for the lead.

The rest of the way they would stay 1-2 and even though Coss tried to make good on some restarts, there was no denying the authority that Hirschman displayed as he remined solid and drove on to the $3,000 victory and his 59th career Evergreen triumph.

While Hirschman claimed another win, for Coss he has finished second in five of the last six Tour Type Modified races at Evergreen, losing to Hirschman four times.

“Second is when consecutively it can get frustrating but at the same time you’re still beating the rest of the field and I’m sure there are people saying ‘We’re tired of seeing Matt win,’ but if I wasn’t here then he (Coss) would have won about every race and you would still have the same winner,” said Hirschman.

“We really were flawless here this year with a prefect season but it also reminds you that we have some work to do on some of the other tracks that we’re not nearly as successful at but here it’s obviously kind of expected, it’s my home track and where I started and throughout the years we’ve always been good here.”

Stewart had an impressive outing, never running lower than fourth and much of the time holding on to third, where he would finish. His teammate, Roger Turbush, followed him in fourth while Jayden Harman marched up from 11th to fifth at the checkers.
