Three of NASCAR’s future stars took center stage on one of the sport’s most historic tracks during the Easter weekend.
Tristan McKee, Corey Heim, William Sawalich and a large enthusiastic crowd proved NASCAR racing at North Carolina’s Rockingham Speedway is clearly back.
The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series was the headlining division at the .94-mile race track that was revived for NASCAR competition last April and while JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier entered the event on a hot streak, 19-year-old Sawalich outran Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota teammate Brandon Jones to earn his first victory in the series.
Heim, who is 23, and the reigning Craftsman Truck Series champion, earned his third win of the season despite running a limited schedule in the series. Finally, McKee, who is 15 years old, won his second consecutive ARCA Menards Series East triumph.
Clearly, the future of NASCAR and Rockingham Speedway is bright.
