CHICAGO — Shane van Gisbergen turned in the fastest lap during qualifying for Saturday afternoon’s The Loop 110 NASCAR Xfinity Series race as part of the Chicago Street Race.
Van Gisbergen, who won the inaugural Chicago race for the NASCAR Cup Series, drove a JR Motorsports Chevrolet to a lap of 90.085 seconds at 87.917 mph on the tight street circuit to claim the top position.
It was van Gisbergen’s first pole of the season and the fourth of his Xfinity Series career.
Austin Hill will start second in Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.
Haas Factory Ford took the second row with Sam Mayer and Sheldon Creed third and fourth, respectively.
Jack Perkins was the surprising fifth-place qualifier in a Toyota.
Justin Allgaier starts sixth in a second JR Motorsports entry.
