WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. — NY Racing and Syracuse University Football’s NIL program have joined forces for Syracuse Football NIL to be the primary sponsor of the No. 44 NASCAR Cup Series car driven by J.J. Yeley in the Aug. 10 race at Watkins Glen Int’l.
Syracuse football is coming off one of its best seasons in recent memory, finishing the 2024 campaign inside the top-20 of the national polls under first-year head coach Fran Brown.
The Orange represent Syracuse University in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
“I’m excited to be a part of this NASCAR race,” Brown said. “I can’t wait to see the NY Racing Team compete while repping the Orange No. 44 DART.”
The No. 44 at Syracuse University holds legendary status, particularly in its football program. It was famously worn by three of football’s greatest running backs: Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little. The No. 44 became a symbol of Syracuse’s athletic tradition and is woven into the university’s identity.
This is a full-circle moment for NY Racing Team as team owner John Cohen chose the No. 44 based on Davis’ success on the gridiron.
