SONOMA, Calif. — Ty Gibbs charged to his first pole of the season during qualifying for Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway.
Gibbs turned a lap of 74.828 seconds at 95.738 mph aboard the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. It was Gibbs third career pole but first since 2024.
“I just thought that I didn’t have a great first lap,” Gibbs said. “It was pretty good, but just I think I could get better and I just stuck to that.”
Carson Hocevar will start second in the No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet after a lap of 74.854 seconds.
Chevrolet drivers Kyle Larson, Michael McDowell, Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen filled the top six positions during qualifying.
Joey Logano was the fastest Ford driver in 10th
Gibbs does not believe qualifying will translate to the race on Sunday.
“Tomorrow is a whole different program,” Gibbs said. “You’re going to be a lot easier on the car instead of hammering it, like in qualifying. So, it’s just completely different. You could be on the pole today and suck tomorrow. You just have to be really focused on the race and that’s the most important part. We’ll stick to that.”
